Link building remains is one of the best ways to gain SEO to rank better and drive more accurately targeted traffic to your website or blog.
Links control the web, and quality backlinks are one of the most important things to every webmaster.
The older methods and techniques aren’t cutting in anymore. In some cases, they can even be harmful.
Marketers who know how to use quality backlinks are going to get out ahead of the competition.
Once Google came on the scene, the importance of SEO shot through the roof. And backlinks became a major component.
That practice remains today.
But you don’t want to heavily pepper your content with “fluff” backlinks. They need to be quality backlinks.
Building backlinks is a critical process to the success of your blog/website and there are numerous ways to do this:
1. Guest blogging.
It’s widely known that guest blogging is a great way to build strong one-way backlinks to your website.
Backlinks built through guest blogging are high quality and carry with them authority. That’s because most of the blogs that you (or a blogger that you hire) will be guest posting for are trusted by Google. Plus, Google doesn’t publish duplicate content.
There are many blogs with a high page rank and so if you or a professional blogger write a great article, then even more people will link to it. This means more authority that will transfer over to your website.
And it has to the potential to be on that blog for a long time.
2. Article marketing.
Although it’s not as great as guest blogging, article marketing has been used for a long time and is one of the most effective ways to get quality backlinks to your blog.
One thing you have to consider when you get backlinks through article marketing is that you want to do it only on relevant websites.
For example, if you are a finance company, then you’ll want to post content on an article directory site which is only targeting the financial industry.
Another thing you’ll need to do is make effective use of anchor text when trying to promote your website through article marketing. If you don’t do this, the backlink will not only lack quality, it will be essentially useless.
Be sure to submit your articles only to reputable and quality article directories that have authority in search engines and are well established.
Finally, you will have more luck if you make use of the do-follow article directories. Many search engines will pass over links from no-follow websites.
3. Social networking site profile.
Although this method is somewhat under-utilized, it still stands as a great way to get quality backlinks to your website.
That’s because many social bookmarking and networking sites carry a high page rank and this rank, in turn, will flow to your account.
You will want to take particular advantage of any sites that allow you to add links to your website and other sites in your bio. Many of them do.
Do not underestimate the power of these links.
4. The power of public relations.
In this case, we’re talking about using the same methods to get quality backlinks that you might use to get press.
Also, don’t forget the power of the press release. Bloggers and journalists are sucking up information like sponges, so if anything new has happened you want to make it easy to find. In this way, you’ll likely be linked to any article that covers the subject.
Be careful though.
You do not want to overuse those anchor text links we talked about above. Doing so will very likely trigger a penalty.
Instead, utilize a press release to pull a variety of anchors to link to your site.
Press releases are a great SEO tool since they can still be added to directories and databases.
Keep in mind that even when you do get mentioned, that doesn’t guarantee that the people referencing you will give you a link. In that case, it can be worthwhile to reach out and remind them that you’d like a link.
5. Link exchange.
Yeah, it’s old school. But it still works in its own way. You can use link exchanges to get rankings for keywords.
If you don’t want to get penalized by search engines, it’s important to have a separate website where you will be putting other people’s links.
6. Broken link building.
Have you ever hit a link only to land at an empty location? (Cue the tumbleweeds.)
This is known as linkrot and even well-maintained websites suffer from it. And users do not like it.
Broken link building will fix this and get you quality backlinks.
This practice relies on finding broken links, identifying the content to which they refer and then offering the site the chance to refer out to some new, unbroken content. Your content.
It’s a win-win situation.
Users and visitors see more up-to-date, useful content and fewer 404 errors. There aren’t a bunch of broken links and, in turn, you get a quality backlink.
For marketers, you’re getting a blog post built around the right keywords.
Here’s the bonus. Unlike a guest post, you get to keep it.
So if anyone uses it as a resource, those links come straight back to YOU. Plus you get link juice up front, too.
7. Document sharing sites
Document sharing sites are a great resource for getting quality backlinks. By compiling your blog posts as .pdf files and uploading them to file sharing websites, you will be leaving a backlink to your website.
You might feel some apprehension around this, but document sharing sites give you some high quality backlinks since many of them are trusted by Google.
The jury is no longer out on this one.
Commenting works for building backlinks. Period.
Keep it ethical, though. You don’t want to spam someone’s blog trying to get backlinks.
And remember that no-follow comments are useless for building backlinks.
Speaking of comments, we’d love to hear ways that you’ve successfully found quality backlinks.
